Framingham man killed in pedestrian accident

When one thinks of a pedestrian accident, one might think of a crosswalk at rush hour or a dark and poorly lit road. One probably does not think of a winding road in a wooded neighborhood in the afternoon. And yet that is what happened.

A 61-year-old man was bringing in the trash cans from the end of his driveway at about 4 p.m. when he was struck by a Mercedes, resulting in a fatal pedestrian accident. According to news sources, the man lived on Edmands Road, which is just east of Wayside Inn Road in Framingham.

It was not stated who discovered the man first, but a passerby knocked on the door of the man's home, where his wife and son where home, and alerted them to the accident. The 61-year-old was apparently thrown 20 feet by the impact and suffered multiple fractures and head trauma. He was taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital where he died of his injuries early the next morning.

The 61-year-old was a long-time former business owner. Nothing was reported about the driver of the Mercedes other than the fact that the driver has been identified and that police are investigating the accident.

The fatal pedestrian accident has brought up comments from the family and neighbors who maintain the old country road is no longer safe for pedestrians due to the increasing speed of local drivers. Long time residents who live along the road have been asking for speed bumps.

If the driver of the Mercedes was either speeding or distracted by cell phone usage, the family of the 61-year-old man may hold the driver negligent for the wrongful death of the husband and father.
