Massachusetts resident killed in fatal car accident

Negligence is a common denominator responsible for the majority of accidents that occur in modern society. Tragically, these accidents often cause serious injury or even death. Many of them could be prevented simply by motorists carefully focusing their attention on the road. New drivers and young adults are more prone to mistakes, making the first few years of driving the most dangerous for many. Unfortunately, the apparent mistakes of a young adult in Massachusetts recently caused a fatal car accident that killed a woman in Canton.

The 19-year-old driver is said to have caused the accident on Sept. 15 when he veered across a yellow line and collided with the other vehicle head on. The other driver involved in the crash, a 65-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The teen man and his passenger were taken to a nearby hospital by helicopter.

The specific injuries suffered by the apparently negligent driver were not detailed. He was arrested, and authorities are expected to charge him with vehicular homicide. The accident is still under investigation by local police and an accident reconstruction team from the Massachusetts State Police.

As the investigations proceed, the driver will likely face criminal charges in Massachusetts. Regardless, the family of the deceased victim has the right to pursue a wrongful death claim in civil court for reimbursement of financial damages sustained as a result of the fatal car accident. If liability is established to the satisfaction of the court hearing the claim, any monetary damages awarded to the family could be used to pay any final expenses for the victim. By lifting this financial burden, the family will hopefully be able to focus on moving forward from the tragedy while also holding those found financially responsible fully accountable under the law.
