World World II veteran dies in Massachusetts pedestrian accident

There are many different ways to use Massachusetts roadways. While most people may automatically think of motor vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians also have equal rights to utilize them. Unfortunately, due to the lack of physical protection such users have against cars and trucks, a pedestrian accident can quickly turn tragic. For example, police say that a World War II veteran was recently killed while crossing the road.

According to some, the 91-year-old man frequently went for morning walks such as the one he was on the day of the fatal accident in March. Reports indicate that the man was in a crosswalk at the time he was struck. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car that is believed to have struck the victim was a 60-year-old woman. She reportedly remained at the scene of the accident. While it is unclear at this time if criminal charges are expected to be filed, the accident likely remains under investigation. However, it was reportedly caught on a surveillance camera at a nearby business.

Regardless of whether criminal charges are pursued as a result of the pedestrian accident, a family is left grieving the loss of their loved one. Additionally, they will have to deal with costs stemming from the man's death, including funeral expenses. As many people in Massachusetts are aware, drivers must demonstrate reasonable care in order to protect those around them, including pedestrians. If it can be proved that the driver's negligence caused the man's death, the victim's family could be awarded with damages to help cope with the ramifications of his death if they choose to file a claim in a civil court. While such an action will likely do little to lessen their grief, it could help remove some of the stress created by the unexpected loss of a loved one.
