Massachusetts pedestrian accident kills 3-year-old

A tragic accident has left police searching for the motor vehicle involved, according to local sources. Massachusetts police investigating the pedestrian accident are calling it a hit-and-run since the driver did not stop to render aid. The accident resulted in the death of a 3-year-old child in Milford.

The accident report is incomplete at this time, but it has been confirmed that the child was attending an Easter party with his family on the afternoon of April 16. For reasons that have not yet been determined, the boy left the yard and wandered into the street, whereupon he was struck by a vehicle. Further details were not reported. The boy died of his injuries. The vehicle involved did not stop, and the driver fled the scene.

Police are now on the lookout for a red sedan, presumably based on witness testimony. No description of the driver has been provided at this time. When police catch up with the driver, there will be more opportunity for an investigation into the specifics of the accident.

There are a number of factors that must be considered regarding this pedestrian accident, including the type of neighborhood where the accident occurred, the estimated speed of the vehicle that struck the child and whether the driver had a last clear chance to see the toddler. The fact that the driver fled the scene suggests that criminal charges will be forthcoming once he or she is apprehended. Separately, the family of the deceased boy may have grounds for a wrongful death claim against the driver in civil court. A Massachusetts personal injury attorney can help families in similar circumstances investigate a fatal accident to determine whether a claim for civil relief would be an appropriate course of action.
