Traumatic brain injury can happen in a Massachusetts accident

Fairs are a common sight across Massachusetts throughout the summer and fall months. Roller coasters, Ferris wheels and other such attractions draw crowds of thrill seekers looking to enjoy themselves. While some riders are apprehensive at first, their jitters quickly turn to delight once the ride begins. Each ride features its own variety of twists, turns and excitement. While the excitement is often anticipated, the possibility of the ride ending in a traumatic brain injury just doesn’t seem to be a part of the experience.

Recently, three girls were riding the Ferris wheel at their county fair in another state. Apparently, something went wrong, and the girls tumbled out of their car and fell over 30 feet to the ground below. The 16-year-old and 10-year-old girls suffered injuries and their conditions were reported as being stable. However, the 6-year-old’s condition remains critical and doctors indicate that she has suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the accident.

Exact details surrounding the accident are unclear. Some reports indicate that the Ferris wheel cart began rocking. It is unclear if it became stuck at an angle causing the girls to fall out. All rides associated with the amusement company who operated the Ferris wheel have been suspended until an investigation can take place. Additionally, the fair itself has ordered its own investigation into the accident.

Accidents often happen with little or no notice. Those three girls were expecting to enjoy their ride and then possibly another attraction. They did not expect for their moment of fun to turn tragic with one of them suffering a traumatic brain injury. Whenever a Massachusetts family suffers as the result of an accident caused by another party, they will most likely face a variety of financial and medical obstacles. They may want to review their available legal options to determine their best course of action.
