85-Year-Old Man Fatally Hit by Car on Mass. Ave in Arlington
Authorities have launched an investigation into a tragic accident in Arlington that resulted in the death of an 85-year-old pedestrian. The incident occurred last week and has left the local community in mourning.
The Middlesex County District Attorney’s office confirmed on Wednesday that they are looking into the details surrounding the crash.
According to the preliminary findings, the victim, identified as Harlan Cuklanz, was attempting to cross Massachusetts Avenue at the intersection with Dundee Street around 6 p.m. on November 26 when he was struck by a Toyota Prius heading eastbound. Cuklanz, an Arlington resident, was immediately transported to Lahey Hospital, where he tragically passed away from his injuries.
The driver involved in the incident, a 47-year-old man from Lexington, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities, as confirmed by the District Attorney’s office. While the investigation is still ongoing, the incident has raised serious concerns about pedestrian safety in the area, especially in busy intersections.
This accident highlights the vulnerability of pedestrians, particularly elderly individuals, who may face challenges when crossing roads, even at designated crosswalks. In cases like this, where a life has been lost, the family of the victim must understand their legal rights and the potential for compensation.
Types of Compensation Available for Accident Victims and Their Families
For families who have lost a loved one in an accident like this, it is essential to explore the types of compensation they may be entitled to.
At Dane Shulman Law, we understand the emotional and financial toll that such a tragic incident can take on a family. Victims and their families can pursue compensation for a range of damages, including medical bills, funeral expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.
In wrongful death cases, families can seek compensation for the emotional distress caused by the loss of a loved one. This can include compensation for the loss of companionship, care, and support. If the accident was caused by the negligence or recklessness of the driver, punitive damages may also be considered in some cases to hold the responsible party accountable for their actions.
Additionally, we recognize that each case is unique, and the amount of compensation depends on factors like the severity of the injuries, the circumstances surrounding the accident, and the long-term impact on the family. At Dane Shulman Law, we offer compassionate legal representation and work tirelessly to ensure that victims’ families receive the compensation they deserve.
