Fatal motorcycle accident in Foxborough allegedly caused by van

Motorcyclists understand that the most dangerous part of riding a motorcycle, are the car and truck drivers sharing the road with the bikers. A well-known bumper sticker reads: "Start seeing motorcycles," but there are still accidents caused by inattentive drivers.

Sadly, an accident occurred in Foxborough recently which killed a motorcyclist and resulted in critical injuries to his passenger. It is also likely to change the life of the 24-year-old driver of the van that is reportedly at fault in the fatal motorcycle accident.

According to news sources, the accident took place in the intersection of Central Street and Leonard Street in Foxborough. A Google map shows us that Central Street has the right of way and stop signs are on both the eastbound and westbound side of Leonard Street. It is a primarily residential neighborhood with good visibility. So what happened?

Apparently, the van ran into the motorcycle, although it was not reported which vehicle was traveling in which direction. The 24-year-old driver of the van was charged with motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield to oncoming traffic.

The motorcyclist and his passenger are both in their 60s. The motorcyclist was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead and his passenger was airlifted to Mass General Hospital where she is listed as in critical condition.

When the negligence of a driver causes an accident in which someone else is injured or dies, the negligent driver may be held liable in civil court. In this case, the family of the man who died can seek wrongful death compensation for their loss and the passenger, if she survives, can seek compensation for damages including pain and suffering.
