Pedestrian injured in Peabody's Peabody Square

There is more than one Peabody Square in Massachusetts. The one in front of the Essex County District Court building in Peabody isn't really much of a square, according to the bird's eye view from Google maps. It is more precisely a triangle. One of the sides of Peabody Square in Peabody is bordered by Lowell Street.

It was reported that a pedestrian was attempting to cross Lowell Street from the direction of Chestnut Street when she was struck by a Ford Explorer pickup truck. She reportedly had serious personal injuries and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The accident occurred at about 8:30 in the evening on Lowell Street. It was reported that there were language or communication problems with the female pedestrian, who was estimated to be in her mid-50s. It was also reported that her injuries were internal and serious in nature and that she was taken by helicopter to the hospital.

According to the American Medical Association, when a personal injury is described as serious, it means that:

  • Vital signs may be unstable or not within normal limits
  • Patient is acutely ill
  • Indicators are questionable

In this particular case, the female pedestrian apparently had internal injuries.

Local law enforcement is investigating the cause of the pedestrian accident. There is a crosswalk at the corner of Chestnut and Lowell although the news report did not indicate whether or not the woman was using the crosswalk side of the corner, or the other unmarked corner.

If the driver of the Ford Explorer was negligent in any way, the driver could be held liable for the personal injury to the woman, perhaps including pain and suffering.
