Two tragic Massachusetts pedestrian accidents

Massachusetts State Police said they are investigating a recent pedestrian accident in which a 66-year-old election lawyer lost his life.

The William Day Boulevard accident happened last Wednesday evening just before eight in the South Boston neighborhood.

U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch described the man as a long-time friend who had helped him many times.

The 33-year-old driver of the Range Rover that struck the attorney stayed at the scene of the accident. He apparently did not display signs that he was intoxicated. No charges have been filed.

In a separate incident, a 69-year-old Worcester woman was killed in a pedestrian accident that same night as she walked across Lincoln Street.

Friends and neighbors described her as a sweet, caring, friendly person who will be missed.

"She was a beautiful woman," a neighbor said. "She took care of all the kids in the neighborhood."

Police said the accident was at about 6:20 that evening. When police arrived, they found the woman conscious and alert, but with head, leg and chest injuries, they said.

She died less than an hour later, according to reports.

Police said the woman was trying to cross the street when a driver of a gray Infiniti came down the street. He told police he "barely saw the woman to his right" and that he tried to brake and swerve to avoid her.

A newspaper article noted that this was the third fatal pedestrian accident on that street in a little more than a year. A man was struck and killed on November 22 of 2011 and four days later, a woman was hit and killed a couple blocks away.
