Distracted teen driver blamed in Massachusetts fatal car accident

A distracted teenage driver apparently caused the death of a 56-year-old man in the Massachusetts town of Mendon recently. Authorities say the fatal car accident occurred shortly after 12:15 p.m. on a Wednesday in mid-June. The victim had been towing a boat and stopped at a local marine store. Thereafter, the man was apparently inspecting the boat with the owner of the store when tragedy struck.

Massachusetts wrongful death verdict of $35M upheld

In 2002, a Massachusetts woman in failing health gave a video deposition for use in her lawsuit against the Lorillard Tobacco Co. She was seeking monetary damages from the company for negligence in causing or contributing to her addiction to tobacco. She died before the trial commenced, and her surviving son continued the litigation as a wrongful death claim. At trial, jurors viewed portions of the deceased woman's video testimony. The jury subsequently returned a verdict in excess of $150 million.

Fatal accident takes life of Easton motorcyclist

An Easton man was pronounced dead at the scene of a fatal accident that pinned him under a fuel truck in West Bridgewater. The 57-year-old victim was riding his motorcycle when the truck crossed the street after exiting the north lot of a waste collection and disposal service in order to enter the company's south lot. The 9-1-1 call was made at 10:21 a.m. and alerted police to a motorcycle pinned under a truck. The caller identified the truck as belonging to the waste disposal service located on the street on which the fatal accident occurred, but the company's terminal manager later denied that the truck belonged to them.
