Massachusetts motorcyclist severely injured at intersection

On behalf of posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Thursday July 4, 2013

People living in Massachusetts know how dangerous motorcycle accidents can be. For one, a motorcyclist is generally heavily exposed on the road, and the possibility for severe injury or death to occur as a result of this vulnerability is very high. Additionally, when high speeds and hard-to-see vehicles are involved, sometimes one of these unfortunate accidents is all but unavoidable. One such motorcyclist was injured recently after his bike crashed into another car while crossing an intersection.

The accident happened a little after 8 p.m. Officials say the 29-year-old motorcyclist was driving south when an elderly driver crossed into the intersection and struck his bike. Apparently the man managed to put his bike down just before being hit. He was hospitalized following the crash for sustaining severe injuries.

Thankfully, the motorcyclist successfully underwent surgery the following morning, and his condition slowly began improving shortly after according to his family. No news has been revealed concerning the status of the 81-year-old man that drove the car, but presumably he escaped the incident unharmed. The exact cause of the wreck is still under investigation by an accident reconstruction team within the Massachusetts State police.

No citation or charges have been filed against either driver as of now. Accidents involving motorcycles can often caused scarring and crippling life-long injuries. If police ultimately determine that the elderly driver was at fault for the accident, then the injured motorcyclist or his family may want to consider following through with a personal injury claim in order to receive compensation for his surgery and any other expenses.
