Fatal accident in Massachusetts kills motorcycle rider

On behalf of posted in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents on Thursday August 15, 2013

Motorcycles are not known for their safety. However, this does not excuse the serious injuries and/or loss of life that usually is paired with a motorcycle accident. If anything, drivers may wish to be more cautious around motorcycle because negligence can be deadly when it comes to these small vehicles. Sadly, a life was taken when a fatal accident occurred in Massachusetts at the end of July.

According to police, the accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at a local intersection in Lawrence. The motorcyclist was westbound when he was struck on the side by a taxi heading in a southerly direction. The rider was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital after the accident. Sadly, he sadly succumbed to the severe injuries and was pronounced dead there.

The fatal accident is still under investigation, and the identity of the rider was not immediately known. An accident reconstruction team was dispatched, and roads were closed for a short time so that the scene could be investigated. No charges were filed in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, though that could certainly change as the official inquiry proceeds.

The victim’s family members must now deal with the shock of their loved one’s sudden passing as they struggle to come to terms with what happened. If the preliminary evidence is confirmed, the family may choose to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against the taxi driver as well as the driver’s employer. This type of civil legal claim must be based on evidence of negligence that is deemed to have caused or contributed to the fatal accident. If compensation is awarded, it could help cover any final expenses as well as other monetary relief provided under the laws of Massachusetts.
