Seldom do people realize that the smallest mistakes while driving can create highly dangerous situations in a split second. Negligence in operating a motor vehicle can quickly cause serious injury or even death. These accidents cannot only injure the victims, but they can also harm the families emotionally. Unfortunately, a Massachusetts woman was killed recently after a car accident caused by an apparently negligent driver.
A 19-year-old drove over the center line in his sports car about 6 p.m. one evening in mid-September, crashing into an oncoming car. This car was operated by a 65-year-old woman. She was transported to a nearby hospital and subsequently passed away as a tragic consequence of the serious injuries she suffered.
The teenage driver and his passenger were taken to the hospital by helicopter for injuries that were initially characterized as serious but not life threatening. Law enforcement authorities intend to charge the man with motor vehicle homicide and a marked lanes violation. Local police are currently investigating the car accident along with a crime scene investigation team attached to the Massachusetts State Police.
The family of the deceased woman retains the right to seek monetary damages for tragic death that was caused by the car accident. The claim may be properly made against the driver of the sports car as well as any separate owner of the vehicle he was operating. If compensation is awarded based upon proof of negligence, it could be used to pay for any final expenses and also as reimbursement for other damages recognized under our state laws. This could allow the Massachusetts family to focus on coping with the loss instead of stressing over the inevitable financial ramifications of the tragedy.
