Fatal car accident kills 1 in Massachusetts

Pedestrian accidents can often be tragic mishaps that injure or even kill those that are involved. The lack of protection that pedestrians have can be quite alarming when negligent drivers are on the roads, especially if these drivers are under the influence of alcohol. Driving under the influence of any controlled substance is never a valid excuse for an accident, especially if the accident takes the life of an individual. Unfortunately, one fatal car accident in Massachusetts recently took the life of a pedestrian.

The accident took place on the evening of May 12 at around 9:30 p.m. and involved one vehicle and one pedestrian. The driver of a box truck apparently struck the pedestrian while the victim was crossing the street in a crosswalk. The victim, a 44-year-old man, was taken to the hospital by emergency personnel but later passed away from his injuries.

The truck driver left the scene after the accident but was soon stopped by police. He told police that he did not see the pedestrian in the crosswalk, but he apparently admitted that he had been drinking. The accident is still under investigation by Massachusetts police.

The driver faces drunk driving charges for his involvement in the fatal car accident. The victim's surviving family maintains the separate right to seek monetary relief for the tragic loss of life. The driver and truck owner could be sued for wrongful death, a claim that would be strengthened if a criminal conviction is ultimately secured. Any compensation awarded from a successful claim could be used to pay for any of the victim's final expenses and other financial losses. This could allow the family to focus on coming to terms with their tragic loss instead of worrying about new bills.
