Workplace accident kills sewer construction worker

There are some career fields that are inherently more dangerous than others, such as the construction industry. Despite federal regulations that work to keep the occurrence of a workplace accident to a minimum, accidents still occur. When accidents occur in a Massachusetts workplace, especially in cases where a fatality may have occurred, it is likely that the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) will conduct an independent investigation.

In a recent report, a victim who lost his life in one such incident was working on a sewer system at the time of the deadly accident. OSHA has indicated that it is now investigating the man's death. The report states that this investigation is typical of fatal workplace accidents.

Reportedly, the worker was helping to install the first sewer system in a small town in another state when a large piece of concrete fell on top of him. His co-workers acted quickly to rescue him by removing the concrete from the victim and attempting to perform CPR until the arrival of the paramedics. Unfortunately, the victim was reportedly pronounced dead later that day.

Many people exercise caution when they are at work and typically, workplace accidents are negated. However, there are times when workers are subject to injuries sustained in the workplace. In cases like these, such injuries can have life-altering consequences.

Massachusetts residents who have been injured may be confused what their options are when they are involved in a workplace accident. The circumstances of each accident will determine what an injured party can do following an accident. In this specific case, the family may be able to make a workers' compensation claim on behalf of the loved one they lost tragically in the sewer construction accident.
