An auto accident in Holbrook left one person dead and three other people injured, authorities reported. The June 29 incident reportedly took place on South Franklin Street at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Authorities stated that a 55-year-old man was driving a blue Oldsmobile on the street in the wrong direction when he collided head-on with another vehicle. Emergency crews transported the man via medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he later died as a result of the injuries he suffered.

A passenger in the Oldsmobile also suffered injuries requiring hospitalization, authorities said. Moreover, two occupants of the other vehicle involved in the wreck suffered injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities indicated that none of their injuries was life-threatening.

It was not clear immediately following the crash what caused the Oldsmobile to cross into oncoming traffic. Both state police and Norfolk County officials are investigating the event, reportedly.

Many auto accidents like this one can be attributed to a driver’s actionable behavior, such as distracted driving or drunk driving. However, some accidents are caused by factors totally outside of the drivers’ control, such as a defective auto part. If that were the case in this particular accident, the people who suffered damages as a result may be entitled to financial compensation via civil action.

People who are injured in car crashes caused by faulty auto parts might file a personal injury claim against the responsible party, such as the manufacturer of the auto part. In this way, accident victims may seek restitution for hospital bills, medical expenses, rehabilitation costs and even lost wages related to their injuries.
