Massachusetts woman dies after hit-and-run pedestrian accident

An Oct. 22 pedestrian accident in resulted in the death of a 26-year-old woman. The victim reportedly died in a hospital in Boston two days after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.

The accident occurred in the evening hours on East Ashland St. in Brockton. The victim, of Randolph, was walking near an apartment complex when a gray Honda CRV reportedly struck her and then drove off. The victim suffered critical injuries and was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She remained in the surgical intensive care unit until her death at about 11 a.m. on Oct. 24.

A bystander who witnessed the accident provided investigators with the Honda's license plate number, enabling police to locate it at a home in Brockton where it was parked in the driveway. Officers noted that it had exterior damage.

The Honda's alleged driver, a 53-year-old woman, was arraigned on charges of drunken driving causing serious injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. She posted $5,000 cash bail on Oct. 23 and was released with an order not to consume or possess alcohol and to comply with unscheduled visits from a probation officer.

A pedestrian accident death that occurs as a result of a drunk driver's negligence may leave the victim's family without an integral source of support in their household. Family members who depended on the deceased person for care, financial support or other services may be unable to return to a state of financial security, and they may consider seeking compensation from negligent drivers. Personal injury attorneys may be a beneficial resource for victims interested in filing wrongful death suits against at-fault drivers.
