On Nov. 21, it was announced that authorities charged a 45-year-old Massachusetts man with motor vehicle homicide for his alleged involvement in a car accident that occurred on Nov. 18. The crash, which took place on Cape Cod, resulted in the death of a 32-year-old Centerville man.
Authorities stated that the accused man, who was identified as a 45-year-old East Bridgewater resident, was traveling east on Route 6 in his Ford 350 pickup when he reportedly became distracted. He was accused of crossing the median and into the oncoming lanes when his pickup collided with a Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda, the 32-year-old man, died at the scene due to the injuries he suffered.
Officials with the Massachusetts State Police reportedly sought an arrest warrant for the accused driver on Nov. 21, charging him with negligent operation, impeded operation and speeding in addition to motor vehicle homicide. It was not stated when the man was scheduled to be in court.
Anyone who becomes involved in a car crash is at risk for suffering serious injuries. Families who lose a loved one to a car accident that might have been caused by a negligent driver may be entitled to request compensation for certain damages by filing a wrongful death claim. The damages that the plaintiff may seek depend upon certain factors, including the plaintiff’s relationship to the deceased person and what costs they sustained as a result of the death. For example, if the plaintiff was married to the deceased person or was a dependent child, they may potentially seek compensation for loss of companionship and loss of income in addition to the cost of medical bills and any funeral expenses.
