Man killed in Massachusetts workplace accident

Many individuals are worried about the impact that an unexpected death in their family could have on their life. Unfortunately, many families are dependent upon a primary breadwinner to ensure that everyone is fed and clothed. A recent workplace accident in Massachusetts has likely made these worries a reality for one family.

The accident happened just before 9 a.m. one morning in early September. Police indicate that a 24-year-old man was working with a crew to construct a warehouse in the Myles Standish Industrial Complex. Unfortunately, he is believed to have fallen from approximately 40 feet.

He suffered traumatic injuries in the fall that ultimately proved fatal. A representative for the district attorney has said that the man's death was an accident. However, it is currently under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well as state and local police.

Those who lose a loved one unexpectedly must come to terms with both their loss as well as the financial difficulties their loss might create. Many families are significantly impacted by funeral costs and loss of wages; however, if a person is killed in a workplace accident, surviving dependent family members may qualify for workers' compensation insurance benefits. Massachusetts employers are typically required by state law to provide these benefits for their workers, and they normally extend to immediate family members in the event of a fatality. However, working with an insurance company to ensure adequate and fair compensation is a burden for which many grieving families are unprepared. In a case such as this, an experienced professional may be able to help pursue claims for financial relief.
