Man leaves behind infant daughter after fatal workplace accident

The vast majority of businesses in Massachusetts are committed to providing a workplace free of hazards to employees. Regrettably, unexpected events occur even when employees are performing relatively routine tasks. For example, one out-of-state man was recently killed in a workplace accident.

The accident happened as the 28-year-old man was working with a forklift. Reports indicate that he was using it to support a boom -- a procedure that is considered routine. However, the boom began to slip from the forklift, causing the latter to tip over. The man exited the forklift but was struck in the head by the boom.

The worker died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the incident. Reports indicate that he leaves behind a wife and a infant daughter. A fatal workplace accident typically spark in investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The man's employer could face citations and/or fines if the investigation uncovers any health or safety violations.

While the family members of the man killed in the workplace accident may experience some degree of relief knowing that OSHA's investigation may prevent others from suffering similarly, it will do little to lessen the financial ramifications of their grief. The man's wife is now left to raise their young daughter alone without the benefit of his wages. In a workplace accident such as this in Massachusetts, victims -- including dependent family members in the event of a fatality -- are often entitled to workers' compensation insurance benefits. A professional with experience in handling benefit claims can help grieving family members seek fair compensation.
