Massachusetts family could make wrongful death claim after crash
The death of a loved one is never easy news to hear. However, an unexpected death that could have been completely prevented often seems even more tragic. While police in Massachusetts continue to investigate a recent fatal crash in Massachusetts, family members of the deceased victim may be considering their legal options, including whether to file a wrongful death claim.
The 45-year-old man is said to have passed away as a result of a collision that occurred in the early morning hours of a day in mid-April. According to reports, an SUV driven by a 22-year-old woman allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic. As a result, her vehicle is said to have collided with the deceased victim’s vehicle head-on. Although he was transported to the hospital following the accident, he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV also suffered injuries that resulted in her being airlifted to the hospital, but she is expected to survive. The SUV also reportedly struck a vehicle that was following the man’s. That driver was treated at the hospital, but released. It is unclear what charges, if any, are expected to be filed as a result of the fatal collision.
Unfortunately, many families in Massachusetts who lose loved ones in such unexpected manners are unprepared both emotionally and financially. During a time of great grief, they are also left wondering how they will cope with funeral expenses, medical bills and the loss of wages. If the death was caused due to another’s negligent actions, a wrongful death lawsuit may be appropriate. Surviving family members could receive an award of damages that will allow them to focus on their emotional recovery rather than their financial situation if there is sufficient evidence to prove negligence.
