Workplace accident could result in Massachusetts fatality

The average Massachusetts resident gets up and goes to work most days throughout the week. Some of these jobs are in an office answering phones, working with clients or designing new buildings; others are outside at construction sites, plants or similar environments. Some individuals love their jobs; others would rather be doing something else. Regardless, each individual leaves for work each day with the expectation of returning home safe and sound. The idea of losing one's life as a result of a workplace accident just usually does not come to mind.

A recent accident at a cement plant has been at the center of a police investigation. Reports indicate that a 33-year-old man working as a contractor at the plant was killed in a mechanical failure accident with a pulley system. The contractor suffered numerous injuries and was declared dead at the plant site.

While workplace accidents are more common than one would like to think, those resulting in death are not that common. However, this cement plant was the setting for another fatal accident in 2014. As a result, the company was cited for violating safety guidelines and fined $400,000. Additionally, they agreed to repair their elevators so that they meet current safety guidelines.

Working is a fact of life for most Massachusetts residents. Along with the expectation of receiving a paycheck when it is due, workers also expect a workplace that provides them with an environment in which their safety is a priority. If one loses a loved one as the result of a workplace accident, he or she will want to investigate the circumstances related to the accident. Additionally, the family will want to ensure that they are receiving the appropriate worker's compensation benefits due to them.
