Massachusetts factory worker severely injured on the job

Various safety precautions are required at Massachusetts workplaces. Should companies fail to implement these safety measurements, workers are often more likely to become injured on the job. One Massachusetts business is being investigated after an employee recently suffered a traumatic injury at work.

Few details of the accident have been released at this time. Officials stated that Boston Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident at M.F. Foley Co., Inc., a Massachusetts seafood plant. Upon arrival, they found an employee whose arm had been severed. The victim was rushed to an area hospital for treatment. The cause of the accident was not revealed.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is currently investigating the accident, a process that could take up to six months. Reports indicate that this factory has faced two prior safety violations for leaving floor or wall openings unguarded and was fined thousands of dollars. It remains to be seen whether the company will receive another citation.

In addition to the traumatic injury, this worker may also face financial struggles in the form of medical bills and lost wages. To help cope with these expenses, the worker is entitled to file a workers' compensation claim. When successful, these claims provide the claimant with monetary relief that can be used to help pay for the various costs associated with an on-the-job injury. Anyone injured on the job could consult an experienced Massachusetts workers' compensation attorney to learn more about these types of claims and to obtain assistance in filing them.
