Car accidents: 1 badly hurt in Massachusetts

On behalf of posted in car accidents on Thursday April 27, 2017

Local and state police are still in the process of investigating a serious crash in Ashby. Massachusetts authorities tasked with investigating car accidents of this type have not yet filed charges against either driver involved in the two-vehicle incident. However, charges seem likely considering the crash caused considerable injuries to several people.

According to the accident report, a 17-year-old boy was driving westbound with an 18-year-old in the passenger seat when the accident occurred. It appears a 30-year-old woman driving an SUV and headed southbound on Route 81 failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, T-boning the other car. The force of the impact caused the car to flip over onto its roof.

Emergency workers had to extricate both occupants of the car. The 18-year-old was rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries, where he remains as of this report. The 17-year-old was also taken to hospital, but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. The woman and her 5-year-old female passenger were also taken to hospitals injuries.

Massachusetts police have not ruled out the possibility that the older driver was distracted, causing her to drive through a stop sign. She may face citations and even criminal charges for her failure to obey the rules of the road. As in many car accidents, the injured parties, including the adult guardians of the minors involved, are entitled to file personal injury lawsuits against her in civil court, even if she is not convicted of a crime.
