Hit-and-run accident leaves one dead, three seriously injured

A car accident is a traumatizing experience that can result in serious injuries. It is especially difficult when the driver who causes the accident leaves the scene. On July 4, WHDH 7NEWS Boston reported that the driver of a black pickup truck was responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident.

Pickup truck struck another vehicle after merging onto bridge

The accident occurred when the pickup truck merged onto the Sagamore Bridge and struck another truck. The impact forced the other truck directly into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a minivan. The driver of the black pickup truck then continued over the bridge leaving the scene.

The driver of the minivan was killed in the accident, while two other minivan passengers suffered serious injuries. The man driving the truck that struck the minivan was also seriously injured.

Traffic was backed up for several hours as a result of the accident. Shortly after the accident, police began looking for a dark colored pickup truck with damage on the left front side.

Dealing with a hit-and-run accident

hit-and-run accident occurs when a driver is involved in an accident and then leaves the scene. Victims of these accidents may feel powerless; however, numerous possibilities still exist for receiving compensation for injuries. Additionally, an accident victim can take a number of important steps to increase the chance of locating the driver who caused the accident.

Recording all information is extremely important

Being involved in an accident is stressful enough, but that stress can be compounded when the other driver leaves the scene. After being involved in a hit-and-run, the most important thing a driver can do is immediately record or write down any information regarding the other vehicle. If the accident was serious, this may not be possible, but information such as the color, make, model and license plate number, if possible, should be recorded immediately.

Most law enforcement officials recommend that a victim of a hit-and-run avoid the temptation to follow the other driver, remain at the scene and contact the local police department. Also, speaking with and identifying any witnesses can help police with the investigation and help with any insurance claims. Asking witnesses to write down their names, addresses and any information that can be recalled about the accident is highly recommended.

An individual who is injured in an accident involving a hit-and-run driver could also benefit by speaking with an experienced hit-and-run attorney. A knowledgeable attorney can provide valuable guidance and work with authorities to help locate the driver who was responsible for the accident. An attorney can also discuss options for receiving any available compensation.
