Missing N.H. Man Found: Authorities are continuing their investigation after the body of a missing New Hampshire man, Stephen Paquette, was found inside his submerged vehicle in the Connecticut River. Paquette, 41, from Littleton, had been missing for over a week before his car was discovered near the Mt. Orne covered bridge in Lancaster, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

The search for Paquette intensified after the Lancaster Police Department, while patrolling the area on Friday, discovered car tracks crossing a hay field. These tracks led to the river, near Route 135, where authorities suspected Paquette’s vehicle had entered the water.

On Saturday morning, a drone was deployed to scan the river, and officials were able to locate a submerged car. With the help of a remotely operated vehicle, it was confirmed that the car belonged to Paquette and that a body was inside.

Later that afternoon, the vehicle was pulled from the river, and the remains were identified as belonging to Paquette. New Hampshire State Police had received a report from Paquette’s family, stating that he was last seen on September 27. They reported him missing on Friday, sparking the search efforts that ultimately led to the discovery of his vehicle.

Authorities are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding Paquette’s death. The New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been scheduled to perform an autopsy to establish the cause and manner of death.

Potential Compensation for Victims’ Families

In cases like this, where an individual is found deceased under unusual circumstances, the family of the victim may be entitled to various forms of compensation, especially if negligence or wrongdoing contributed to the tragedy.

Depending on the findings of the investigation, compensation could cover funeral expenses, emotional distress, loss of companionship, and more. If Paquette’s death is linked to another party’s negligence, such as a faulty road design, defective vehicle components, or improper maintenance of public areas, his family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.
