SUV Strikes Three Pedestrians Before Colliding with Boston Restaurant
BOSTON – An afternoon turned chaotic on a busy Friday in Boston when an SUV struck three pedestrians before crashing into a restaurant, causing widespread confusion and panic. The incident occurred at the intersection of Stuart and Tremont streets around 3:43 p.m., leaving three people injured and the restaurant seriously damaged, according to local authorities.
Accident Details and Immediate Aftermath
The incident unfolded when the SUV, involved in a collision with another vehicle at the intersection, lost control and veered into Genki-Ya Japanese Restaurant. The SUV struck three pedestrians on the sidewalk before crashing through the restaurant’s front windows. Witnesses described the terrifying scene as one of confusion and fear, with many people rushing to help the injured.
Video footage captured by a bystander showed emergency responders loading the SUV’s driver onto a stretcher. Two of the pedestrians were rushed to the hospital with injuries, but fortunately, police reported that they are expected to survive.
“Very scary to be that close to know that if I didn’t hear a crash and didn’t look up, I could have been right there in the middle of it,” recalled Alex Simpson, a witness who was almost caught in the path of the SUV. Simpson acted quickly and used a pocket knife to cut the driver’s airbag, helping first responders access the driver. “We got in there and got the airbag cut and started checking him to see if he was doing alright, and he was not doing well,” Simpson added.
Another witness, Andrew Denney, described the aftermath, saying, “I turned around and it was smashed into the building, and I saw one person lying on the ground over there, and someone was tending to her. She looked pretty bad, a lot of blood.” He expressed his shock at the accident, noting how unexpected it was on such a bustling street corner.
Restaurant Damage and Response
Genki-Ya Japanese Restaurant, which has been a staple on this busy Boston corner for over eleven years, suffered extensive damage. The restaurant’s owner, Jason Yu, expressed his dismay at the situation, stating, “We cannot do business right now. The structure has big damage, that’s why the building department is here, and the inspector is here.” It remains uncertain when the restaurant will be able to reopen as city inspectors evaluate the building’s structural integrity.
Dylan Stevens, another bystander, expressed his gratitude for not being involved in the accident but voiced his concern for those who were hurt. “We’re just thankful that we were not part of it, praying for anyone else that was potentially injured,” Stevens remarked.
Compensation for Victims
In incidents like this, victims of car accidents, particularly pedestrians, may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. The pedestrians struck by the SUV could face significant medical bills, physical rehabilitation, and emotional trauma due to the accident. Additionally, if the SUV’s driver is found to be negligent or at fault, these victims may pursue compensation through the driver’s insurance or a personal injury lawsuit.
