Tragic Accident on I-95 in Maine: Loose Tire from Truck Results in Fatal Collision
In a tragic accident on I-95 in Maine, a man lost his life when a tire flew off a vehicle, crossed a guardrail, and collided with his car. The fatal incident occurred on Monday, claiming the life of Justin Nsenga, 49, from Old Orchard Beach. Maine State Police reported that the accident happened near the town line between Gray and Cumberland.
Authorities responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. A 2021 GMC Sierra pickup truck towing a camper trailer was heading northbound when the vehicle’s rear, driver’s side tire became dislodged. The tire traveled across the median guardrail and struck a 2018 Mercedes sedan traveling southbound.
Nsenga, who was driving the Mercedes, was pronounced dead at the scene. The GMC was driven by a 43-year-old man from Saint-Hubert, Quebec, who had four passengers with him. Fortunately, none of them were injured, according to the police.
As the initial investigation unfolded, another crash occurred nearby. Traffic had slowed down due to the first accident when a 31-year-old woman from South Paris lost control of her motorcycle on the southbound side of the highway. The motorcycle skidded and came to a stop in the roadway, resulting in the woman being transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses to the initial crash are urged to contact the Augusta Regional Communications Center at 207-624-7076 and ask to speak with Trooper Tom Welch. The investigation into the tragic accident is ongoing.
