Unlicensed Driver Charged with OUI After Hit-and-Run Collision
In a shocking hit-and-run collision early Sunday morning, an unlicensed driver crashed into the front of a Cape Cod house while driving under the influence, and then fled the scene, according to police.
The incident involved a 21-year-old man from Falmouth who is now facing a multitude of charges. These include operating under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of property damage, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and a stop sign violation.
The Falmouth Police Department provided these details in a press release on Monday morning.
Firefighters were dispatched to 780 E. Falmouth Highway in Falmouth following reports of a car crashing into a home around 2:35 a.m. Sunday, as stated by the Falmouth Fire Department. Upon arrival, emergency responders found that a mid-sized SUV had plowed into the kitchen of a single-family home.
The collision caused extensive damage to the property, including a water leak and electrical hazards. Photographs from the scene reveal the SUV entirely lodged within the kitchen.
The fire department noted that the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he was transported to Falmouth Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, none of the home’s residents, including pets, sustained injuries in the crash.
The aftermath of the crash rendered the house uninhabitable due to the severe structural damage. The town’s inspectional services are collaborating with the residents to address the situation. Firefighters spent approximately three hours extricating the vehicle from the home, highlighting the severity of the incident.
For the victims of such a hit-and-run collision, the potential compensation at stake is significant. Homeowners can seek damages for the extensive property damage incurred.
This includes costs for repairing or rebuilding the damaged structure, replacing personal belongings, and covering temporary housing expenses if the home is deemed uninhabitable. Additionally, if any physical or emotional trauma was experienced by the residents due to the crash, they may be entitled to further compensation for pain and suffering.
