Eight Injured in Head-On Collision Triggered by Moose
Late Friday night in Shirley, Maine, a head-on collision involving a moose resulted in multiple injuries. The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident occurred on Greenville Road around 9:25 p.m., responding to find eight injured individuals and two heavily damaged vehicles—a Jeep Cherokee and a Chevy Suburban.
According to the investigation, the Jeep was traveling south when it struck a moose, causing the vehicle to cross the center line and collide with the northbound Chevy.
Among the injured were four adults and four children, aged between 5 and 9. All were transported to C.A. Dean Hospital, with a 5-year-old boy being airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in “serious but stable” condition.
