Hit-and-Run Incident in Needham Leaves Two Pedestrians Injured
A hit-and-run incident in Needham has left two pedestrians hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck at the intersection of Hunnewell Street and West Street on Monday evening.
The Needham Police Department reported that the accident occurred around 7:12 p.m. when a dark-colored Honda sedan or SUV struck two people and quickly fled the scene. Witnesses provided descriptions of the vehicle to authorities, and evidence collected at the scene, including car parts, confirmed the vehicle as a Honda.
Both pedestrians sustained serious injuries from the hit-and-run and were transported by ambulance to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where they received treatment.
Although their current condition has not been released, injuries of this nature often require extensive medical attention and carry lasting physical and emotional effects. Later in the evening, the driver returned to the scene, reportedly explaining to a news reporter that he had been “so scared” immediately following the incident.
On Tuesday, police identified the driver as a 23-year-old man from Boston. According to law enforcement, the driver will face charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended registration, and operating an uninsured vehicle.
While the police did not make an immediate arrest, the driver will be summoned to appear in court to answer for these charges. The investigation remains ongoing, with police gathering additional information to ensure that justice is served for the two victims.
Understanding Compensation for Victims in Hit-and-Run Accidents
For the two pedestrians injured in this hit-and-run, the physical, emotional, and financial consequences may be extensive. Compensation in such cases can cover a range of damages, including medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
Victims of negligent drivers may also be eligible for compensation related to emotional distress and long-term impacts on their quality of life. In a hit-and-run scenario, the victim may have additional rights to compensation due to the driver’s decision to leave the scene, which aggravates the severity of the incident.
As victims face the prospect of significant medical bills and possibly lost income due to their injuries, it becomes essential for them to understand their rights and options for pursuing justice. Pursuing these claims can be complex, especially when dealing with a driver who fled the scene or is underinsured.
