A New Hampshire officer was injured in a hit-and-run incident on Thursday while responding to an accident on Route 101A in Amherst, according to a statement from the Amherst Police Department. Officer Kyle Cordero was on the scene of a vehicle rollover around 9:30 a.m., helping clear the road after a crash, when a truck failed to slow down or navigate safely through the area, striking low-hanging utility wires and causing a dangerous chain reaction.

Amherst police report that during efforts to secure the crash site and clear the roadway, a passing truck became entangled in the low-hanging utility wires left by the earlier accident. As the truck passed through, it pulled down a telephone pole, which then fell, striking Officer Cordero in the legs and knocking him to the ground. Despite the serious nature of the incident, the truck driver continued driving, leaving the scene of the accident without offering any aid.

Officer Cordero was promptly taken to the hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries, which were fortunately considered minor. After several hours under medical care, he was released later that afternoon to recover. While the Amherst Police Department has identified the vehicle involved, they have yet to release details about the suspect as the investigation remains ongoing.

Types of Compensation for Hit-and-Run Victims

This hit-and-run incident involving Officer Cordero highlights the potential challenges for victims of such incidents, who may face physical, emotional, and financial burdens as they recover. Compensation in hit-and-run cases typically covers medical expenses, lost wages due to time off work, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. In cases involving police officers injured in the line of duty, additional considerations may include compensation for long-term physical therapy, disability-related costs if injuries lead to lasting effects, and possible coverage for mental health support if the incident results in trauma.

Even with minor injuries, the disruption to one’s life and the potential for long-term impacts can be significant, especially for individuals like Officer Cordero, whose duties require physical readiness and mental resilience. Compensation can provide vital support as victims and their families manage both immediate recovery needs and longer-term health implications.
