The accident occurred one morning in late June. Reports indicate that a 66-year-old man was working with a front-end loader. Unfortunately, he apparently became trapped by sand in the area where he was digging.
One rescue worker reports that approximately 150 feet of sand fell on the man. Rescue attempts were hindered due to the sand, but the man's body was eventually recovered some hours later. Some reports indicate that the construction site had passed inspection a few weeks prior to the accident.
As a result of the workplace accident in Massachusetts, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will likely launch an investigation into the accident. While the report generated by the agency may be able to provide some closure to the man's grieving family, it will do nothing to lessen the financial burden they may be facing. Although his family may be entitled to workers' compensation insurance benefits, many people have learned that dealing with the compensation system is no easy task. Because of this, assistance from an experienced attorney could help ensure fair compensation.
