A bus driver has been arrested following a car accident

The driver, identified as 64-year-old Steven Edwards, was responsible for transporting five children, ranging in ages from 10 to 14, along with an aide to Victory Station Academy when the incident occurred at the intersection of Bellport Avenue and Head of the Neck Road around 7:50 a.m.
Despite the heavy front-end damage sustained by the bus, Suffolk County police confirmed that everyone on board, including the aide, emerged physically unharmed and was promptly transported to local hospitals for precautionary measures. However, the situation took a contentious turn when Edwards, displaying hostility, resisted allowing medical personnel to assess the children and engaged in a confrontation with law enforcement at the scene.
Gregory Miglino of the Department of South Country Ambulance recounted the efforts to manage the tense situation, stating, “When we saw the hostile situation, we tried to verbally deescalate it so that we could get in and take care of the children as well as the bus driver.”
Subsequently, Edwards was placed under arrest and is now facing charges, including five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, along with two counts of Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Harassment, and Resisting Arrest.
Despite attempts to reach Edwards for comment, he could not be contacted. The emotional state of Edwards at the time of the crash remains unclear. He was issued a desk appearance ticket as the investigation into the incident continues.
