Auto accidents: driver charged in serious crash in Massachusetts

Four people are dead following a serious accident involving an SUV at an auto auction, according to Billerica authorities. It is unclear whether Massachusetts police have filed charges against the driver involved. However, it should be noted the driver was deemed responsible for seven other auto accidents in the last 30 years.

According to the District Attorney, the May 3 crash involved an SUV that reportedly lurched out of control and smashed through a wall at an indoor auto trade show in Billerica on May 3. Nine people were injured in the mayhem, several of them seriously. Two individuals visiting from out of state were pronounced dead at the scene, and a further seven people were rushed to local hospitals.

Of those seven, another individual was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. A fourth individual was pronounced dead on May 10. The driver, who worked for the company that put on the auto show, was reportedly uninjured in the crash. Considering the individual’s driving record, it seems likely police will choose to file charges or citations in this case.

In auto accidents where the cause of the crash is not immediately obvious, it can take Massachusetts police some time to investigate and come to a determination regarding whether or not the driver can be deemed partially or fully responsible for the crash. In this case, they will continue to investigate whether the accident was the fault of mechanical error, negligence, recklessness and/or other causes. It may be possible for the families of the deceased, as well as the additional five injured parties, to file wrongful death and/or personal injury lawsuits against the driver and the company that put on the auto show.
