Dog bite seriously injures Massachusetts woman

A dog that bit a Massachusetts woman recently and caused her serious injury has allegedly tried to bite before. The dog bite tore off her lip. The dog responsible — a young Pit bull mix — was recently adopted from a rescue organization. It had reportedly been adopted but then taken back to the shelter several times, according to its owner.

The dog allegedly attacked the girlfriend of a Massachusetts man who was completing renovations on a house. The owner of the dog was working with him, and both were staying at the residence. The dog should not have been on the scene, according the boyfriend of the victim.

The woman suffered serious injury when the dog attacked. She reportedly lost her bottom lip, when the dog tore it from her face. She required surgery, which lasted more than three hours, according to reports.

The dog had allegedly attempted to bite the woman’s boyfriend on at least two separate occasions. Initial reports stated, apparently incorrectly, that the woman had asked the dog for a kiss. Her boyfriend, however, says that is not true. He says the dog attacked without provocation. An update on the woman’s condition was not available at the time of this report.

The Pit bull was placed in quarantine after the dog bite was reported. Officials have not yet determined its fate. According to Massachusetts law, the dog’s owner could be held liable for the injuries suffered by the woman. She retains the right to file a personal injury lawsuit. A successfully litigated claim could provide the means to cover her medical bills and any related expenses.
