Family wonders if medical malpractice led to baby’s death

The birth of a baby should be a time of celebration of life for parents in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, an out-of-state delivery turned into a time of mourning for one family after the death of the baby. The family is now seeking answers to questions regarding the doctor’s decisions and actions during the delivery and whether medical malpractice could have been a factor in the infant’s death.

According to reports, the child’s mother went to the hospital to be induced in early November. There were apparently no known health issues facing the child prior to the delivery. Unfortunately, the family claims that the child became lodged in the birth canal.

According to the family, they made several requests for the doctor to perform a Caesarian section. These requests, however, were allegedly ignored. While the events of the delivery are still being pieced together, the family alleges that the doctor’s attempts to delivery the baby broke the infant’s clavicle. The baby was almost 9.5 pounds. A hospital spokesperson has said that it is investigating the child’s death to determine what happened and whether procedures need to be changed.

After an incident such as this, it is understandable that families want answers. If medical malpractice did play a role, filing a lawsuit with a civil court may be an appropriate response. For some people in Massachusetts, knowing that their actions may prevent others from suffering similarly provides them with some degree of comfort and closure. If negligence is proved, victims could also receive an award of damages that will allow them to cope with the financial and emotional consequences of their loss.
