Fatal July 4th accident leaves police, family with questions

As one of the most prominent states involved in the American Revolution, Massachusetts is often considered a prime place to celebrate the Fourth of July. Although many people celebrated this year with loved ones, one family in Massachusetts saw the holiday weekend come to an unfortunate conclusion.

According to reports, a family from Israel was driving a rented vehicle on Cape Cod. As they were driving across the Sagamore Bridge, a nearby pickup truck collided with another truck as it was merging into traffic. The second truck flew into the oncoming lane of traffic after the impact and collided with the family’s rented minivan. Sadly, the van’s driver didn’t survive the crash and six others were injured, including a child.

At this time, law enforcement officials are still looking for the driver of the merging truck, since he or she drove away from the scene of the collision. In order to help bring a conclusion to the hit-and-run accident investigation, police are asking residents to look out for the vehicle, which is described as a dark truck with body damage.

If a negligent driver causes a fatal car accident, a wrongful death claim may be feasible. Since this was a hit and ran, and the at-fault driver hasn’t been located, this possibility becomes more complicated.

In some cases, it’s possible to file a claim with your own insurance provider if you are the victim of a hit-and-run accident. However, this particular case involves a rental vehicle and a family that is reportedly from another country. Although these details could complicate any efforts to recover damages, some legal options may still exist.
