Man arrested after fatal car accident in Massachusetts

For many people in this country, the start of a new year is a time of hope as people make resolutions regarding their goals for the future. Unfortunately, this new year was anything but hopeful for one Massachusetts family after a loved one was killed in a suspected drunk driving accident. Criminal charges have since been filed as a result of the fatal car accident.

The accident happened on New Year’s Day. Rescuers claim that a 23-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when he began driving on the wrong side of the road. He allegedly struck a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old high school student.

Reports indicate that the impact caused the teenager’s vehicle to flip. He was ejected from the car and died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident. A third vehicle was involved, but none of its occupants were injured. The driver of the first vehicle has since been arrested and faces homicide charges.

The unexpected loss of a loved one is understandably difficult for family members, and, when that loss involves a young person being killed in a preventable accident, it is likely even more devastating. The family members of this deceased teenager are likely still trying to deal with their grief. As they do so, they may also start to realize the financial implications of such a loss. While the criminal justice system will determine if any criminal punishments are necessary, the family can also seek to hold the driver responsible for the fatal car accident in a Massachusetts civil court. A successfully argued case could result in an award of damages to cover related costs, such as funeral expenses, while also compensating them for pain and suffering.
