Man faces workplace injury during bridge renovation
Construction is an industry that often involves major risks. Whether due to falls, equipment malfunction or another type of accident, construction workers in Massachusetts and across the country may face a possible workplace injury on a regular basis. One employee in another state was recently hurt in the renovation of a bridge.
According to authorities, the construction worker was performing work on the lower level of the bridge at the time of the accident. He and a crew were engaged in dismantling the lower level of the bridge as part of the “Raise the Roadway” project. The cause of the accident is currently unclear, however, it is reported that the worker was severely injured and the bridge was temporarily shut down.
Officials said that the man suffered a serious injury to his leg. The fire department responded to the scene and a witness reported that the worker was conscious, though possibly in shock. The worker was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The accident may be further investigated to determine the cause.
After such an injury, a worker may face significant medical bills. To help cope with this, he or she could file for workers’ compensation benefits. When awarded, these benefits can be used to help cover the cost of medical bills and cover lost wages an employee may face after an accident. Anyone who has suffered a workplace injury could consult an experienced Massachusetts workers’ compensation attorney for more information and for assistance in filing this type of claim.
