Massachusetts auto accidents: Pedestrian injured in Watertown

Police have yet to determine the cause of a car accident that nearly claimed the life of a pedestrian. Auto accidents involving pedestrians are disturbingly common as more and more vehicles crowd Massachusetts roadways. In this case, the victim was lucky to survive, and for the moment, no charges have been filed.

The accident report places the time of the crash at approximately 8:30 a.m. the morning of May 29. The 50-year-old male pedestrian was crossing Watertown Street in Watertown when he was struck by an SUV. Police noted that traffic was fairly heavy at the time of the accident, but that they have not been able to determine if the driver was speeding. The victim’s name has not been released at this time.

The man was rushed to a local hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. The woman driving the SUV was also taken to hospital for a stress-related issue. It is unclear whether this issue contributed to the accident, or was caused by it. The police investigation is apparently ongoing.

In auto accidents involving injuries, it is common for Massachusetts authorities to seek a root cause of the crash in order to ascertain whether the driver or drivers violated any laws with respect to the accident. In this case, it is possible police will find sufficient cause to file charges. Even if they do not choose to file against the driver, the injured man is allowed by state law to take the matter to a civil court and file a personal injury claim for financial relief.
