Massachusetts crash involving semi truck kills 1, injures 1

Officers with the Massachusetts State Police reported that a car accident on Dec. 23 left one person dead and one person with serious injuries. The crash reportedly occurred on the Massachusetts Pike at approximately 1:40 p.m. and involved a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.

The crash occurred near the 79 mile marker in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90. One of the vehicles involved in the initial incident was a 2011 Toyota Camry that was being driven by a 60-year-old man from Maine. The Camry was suddenly struck by a 2007 Freightliner truck when its 51-year-old driver attempted to change lanes. The Camry’s driver was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, causing the man to be thrown from the vehicle when the collision occurred. The Camry’s 64-year-old female passenger remained trapped inside the vehicle, and the truck came to a stop after being overturned.

The Camry’s driver and passenger were both transported to UMass Medical Center for treatment. The passenger died as a result of her injuries, and the driver’s injuries were described as being potentially life-threatening. The semi-truck driver did not suffer any injuries. It was not reported if the driver of the semi-truck would face any charges as the authorities were still investigating the crash.

If an individual is killed in a fatal car accident, the deceased person’s family may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim against the driver who was found liable for the crash. If the semi-truck driver was working when the collision occurred, the family members could potentially name both the liable driver and the company that hired the driver as defendants. The family might use these claims to recover the cost of damages resulting from the death, including any medical bills and funeral costs.
