Massachusetts firefighter injured in motorcycle accident

Firefighters are often seen as invincible heroes. Unfortunately, these men and women are not invincible, and are sometimes hurt or killed in accidents that are not related at all to their jobs. Car accidents are one of the leading causes of death in America, and have even taken the lives of off-duty firefighters. A Massachusetts firefighter was seriously injured recently in a car accident involving a drunk driver.

The Massachusetts firefighter was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Oct. 16 at around 9:30 p.m. He was riding his motorcycle when a van pulled out in front of him, and the two collided. Police arrived soon after the accident occurred, but the van had left the scene. Later, while police were still investigating the collision, the driver of the van returned.

The accident left the firefighter with serious injuries. He was still in critical condition as of Oct. 18. The driver of the van was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, among other charges. If the firefighter were to pass away while in the hospital, the man could then face vehicular homicide charges.

Even if the driver of the van is not found guilty of the criminal charges that have been brought against him, the injured Massachusetts firefighter may have the right to seek monetary reimbursement. If damages are awarded, it could help ease the burden that all too often falls upon those who spend an extended period of time in the hospital. Financial restitution could also help supplement his income while he is out of work.
