Massachusetts man injured on the job; drunk driver arrested

On behalf of posted in Workers' Compensation on Thursday September 3, 2015

Many people in Massachusetts report to their jobs every day, seeking a living that will allow them to support themselves as well as their family. Some of these jobs are more dangerous than others — such as those that require workers to be near large pieces of machinery, including cars on the roadway. Unfortunately, one man was recently injured on the job after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver.

The 25-year-old victim was working at a construction site on an overnight project. Police claim that he was struck at approximately 2:30 a.m. one morning in late August. He was transported to an area hospital, but he was then taken by helicopter to another. He is currently listed in critical condition.

The 29-year-old driver allegedly driving the car that struck the young man has since been arrested. He faces several charges, including driving on a revoked license and drunk driving. The road was closed for approximately three hours while officials conducted an investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

The injured man may be left wondering how he will pay his bills now that he is unable to work, and he is likely facing extreme medical bills. Because he was injured on the job in Massachusetts, he is likely entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits. These benefits provide for lost wages and medical expenses. Additionally, the victim also has the option of filing a personal injury lawsuit against the man police say struck him. An experienced attorney can discuss these options with him and help him make an informed decision regarding his legal rights.
