Massachusetts multi-vehicle interstate crash injures 3

A multi-vehicle crash that occurred Aug. 28 on Interstate 95 in Attleboro has left three people injured. The crash happened in the southbound lanes around 6 p.m. near Exit 3. According to the Massachusetts State Police, a Ford Explorer was being driven north on I-95 by a 33-year-old Barnstable man when it crossed over the median and struck a car head-on. A third southbound vehicle was also involved in the crash.

The driver of the Explorer suffered serious injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. The other two drivers were transported to Rhode Island Hospital suffering from injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening. The drivers were described as a 58-year-old Attleboro man and a 52-year-old Providence man.

Authorities closed both sides of I-95 until the scene could be cleared and the accident investigated. The south side was closed for more than two hours, resulting in heavy traffic delays. Reports did not indicate exactly why the driver of the Ford Explorer failed to maintain his lane and allowed his vehicle to cross over the median. There was no mention of alcohol or drugs being involved, and weather does not seem to have been a factor.

Head-on crashes can often end in serious injuries or fatalities. Speeding, driver distraction, improper vehicle maintenance or a number of other factors could all be considered negligence. A person who has been injured in an accident that was the result of negligence might be able to recover compensation by filing a personal injury lawsuit against the negligent driver, which may lead to a settlement with the driver’s insurance company.
