Massachusetts police investigate horrific pedestrian accident

On behalf of posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Tuesday May 12, 2015

Accidents happen every day in Massachusetts. Some accidents are a result of someone’s negligence, while others could be caused by circumstances beyond a person’s control. Regardless of the cause of an accident, it is imperative that a person involved in an accident stop to render aid to any victims. However, police say that they are looking for the driver of a car involved in a fatal pedestrian accident who reportedly left the scene.

Reports indicate that the accident happened in the early morning hours of a Friday in May.  A car allegedly struck a pedestrian, and the victim is believed to have been pinned under the car and dragged for several hundred yards. The driver of the car made a turn, which dislodged the man’s body. However, the victim died.

Part of the car’s grille was believed to be recovered from the scene. Police are now working to locate the car. They hope to obtain surveillance footage from a nearby restaurant that could shed some light on the driver’s identity. The victim is believed to be a male in his twenties, but the release of his identity is pending notification of his family.

Once police identify the driver of the car, it will be determined if criminal charges are warranted. Regardless of what happens with the criminal justice system, the deceased man’s family members have the option of pursuing justice in a Massachusetts civil court. If it can be proved that the accident was caused by the driver’s negligence, the family could receive an award of damages to help with the financial ramifications of his tragic death as a result of the pedestrian accident.
