WEYMOUTH, MA – A driver was traveling the wrong way on Route 3 on the Massachusetts South Shore, causing multiple collisions Saturday.
According to WCVB, Massachusetts State Police were made aware of this wrong-way driver five minutes before 8:30 p.m. Based on word from police and eyewitnesses, the motorist, an unidentified man, was traveling south on the northbound lanes. He then traveled on the wrong-way again.
The driver crashed into multiple vehicles and then collided with a guardrail and median.
Bystanders said he got out of his vehicle and held a knife. He released the knife, and officials were able to place him into custody.
Police have not indicated pending charges for the man, but did say he was transported to “ South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for a psychiatric evaluation.”
No injuries were reported.
