Pedestrian accident injures 2 in Massachusetts
On August 25, a pedestrian accident in Methuen left two people with injuries, reportedly. While one of the pedestrians suffered minor injuries, the other pedestrian suffered major head injuries, authorities stated.
According to the Methuen Police Department, the accident occurred when a 74-year-old man was driving a Dodge Avenger in the parking lot of a hospital and lost control of the vehicle, striking the two pedestrians, ages 74 and 77. The Dodge subsequently crashed into a parked vehicle.
Emergency personnel took one of the pedestrians, a 77-year-old woman, to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was treated for slight injuries. The other pedestrian, a 74-year-old man, suffered injuries to his head that officials deemed major and received emergency transport to Lawrence General Hospital’s Trauma Unit. From there, a medical helicopter transported the man to Massachusetts General Hospital for further treatment, authorities reported.
According to the MPD, the accident is still under investigation. Reportedly, officials with the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Unit are assisting in the investigation. It was not clear immediately following the event if police planned to issue any citations or file any charges in connection with the incident.
Many pedestrian accidents result in injuries. As this case demonstrates, the injuries resulting from such an accident can be serious. Furthermore, accident victims must often deal with more than just physical pain. In many cases, they must also cope with the financial burdens that accompany accident-related injuries.
However, these victims may seek civil remedies if the accident can be demonstrably attributed to another party’s negligence or recklessness. For this reason, many injured victims retain a personal injury attorney following a pedestrian accident. By filing suit against the at-fault party, victims may receive financial compensation for hospital bills, medical expenses and other economic losses related to their injuries.
