Police: Drunk driver hits Weymouth man with car

Earlier this week, two men were sitting in a bar about 15 miles south of Boston when one got up around 8:30 p.m. without paying his bill and left the establishment. The 48-year-old went outside and got into his car.

The other man, 38 years old, reportedly followed him outside the Weymouth pub and told him to go back in and pay his tab. The first man put his car in reverse and backed up, hitting the second man and pinning him against another vehicle in the parking lot. The pedestrian sustained severe blunt force injuries, according to police.

The 48-year-old allegedly drove off after the crash.

The victim was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for treatment of his extensive injuries, a police spokesperson said.

Witnesses said the driver had refused to pay his bill and left the pub, with the victim following him outside, telling him to pay up.

The driver was spotted later in Weymouth by a police officer who said the vehicle description and license plate number both fit the witnesses’ descriptions.

The driver was given a number of field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident after causing personal injury and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and causing serious bodily injuries.
