Resident hit by van a case of nursing home negligence

As individuals age, they often lose the ability to fully take care of themselves. Unfortunately, it is not always possible for a family member to step in and care for their aging loved one. When this happens, many times, Massachusetts families will turn to a nursing home for help. In doing so, the family is trusting the nursing home staff to make sure that their loved one is properly cared for and that there will be no problems with nursing home negligence.

The level of care that an individual requires from the nursing home is dependent upon the individual’s health. For those who only require minimal assistance, many nursing homes offer them the ability to get out and about. This is often done through the use of nursing home vans or shuttles.

However, in one recently settled incident, a nursing home resident was injured when the nursing home van hit him as he was waiting to board it. According to reports, the resident is blind. While he was waiting to board one of the nursing home vans, he was hit by the van which was being driven by one of the nursing home staff. His injuries include recurring pain and numbness in his arm.

The resident filed suit for nursing home negligence and was recently awarded an amount that has not been disclosed. Families trust the nursing home to care for their loved ones. In addition to medical care, families expect their loved ones to be protected at all times.
